What has happened to our kids’ attention and lack of engagement in play or learning? And is there a common root to both attention issues and anxiety?
Attention and anxiety issues are increasing at alarming rates among our children and youth. Restlessness and anxiety can pose challenges for learning and behaviour at home and at school leaving adults overwhelmed from trying to make headway with their child or teen. In trying to alleviate symptoms we can unknowingly exacerbate the underlying cause. There is much that can be done to help bring a child to rest by understanding the common roots of attention and anxiety problems.
Objectives
- Understand the role of immaturity and alarm in attention problems
- Examine the role of emotional defences in creating attention and alarm issues
- Provide strategies for making headway on attention and alarm issues based in emotional immaturity
